JRHF was out at Colonial Downs Racetrack Saturday promoting all our great work with retired thoroughbred horses at the State Farm Work Center in Goochland County! Board members Janis Paiva, Pam Johnson, Cynthia Weldon and Samnatha Mackey were out manning a trackside information booth and also made a winner’s circle presentation to jockey Nik Juarez in their named race. A total of 26 horses — either retired or on rehab — reside at the farm. Female inmates based there are trained to take care of the horses, which helps inspire growth and confidence as they prepare to re-enter their communities as graduates of the program. What a great day to share our love of horses with others!
