More About Covert Action

Covert Action may not have made headlines on the racetrack, despite being the grandson of Secretariat, but his true legacy was never measured in winnings. It was measured in lives changed.

Born on March 17, 1995, in Ontario, Canada, Covert Action raced 26 times, earning three wins and just over $22,000. While his racing career was modest, what he did after meant far more.

On November 12, 2007, Covert Action arrived as one of the very first horses at State Farm Work Center, where he quickly became the heart of the program. He was a steady presence, a teacher, and a source of comfort for so many.

Among the many lives he touched was a man named Tamio, who found trust, patience, and purpose through his bond with Covert. As he once shared, money could never compare to the kind of change Covert brought into his life.

Known as laid back, goofy, and a bit of a social butterfly, Covert had a way of connecting with everyone he met. His stall became a place people returned to, again and again. His mane held more tears than anyone could count, and somehow he always gave something back, a sense of calm, confidence, or simply the feeling that things could get better.

Though his racing career was unremarkable, the role he played in people’s lives was anything but. He helped guide countless individuals toward growth, patience, and a different path forward.

Covert Action passed on April 10, 2026, at the age of 31. He is deeply missed and will always be a part of this program and the people whose lives he changed.
